Politics
SamplePicture05.jpgWhen you try to discuss politics and economics, some people are uncomfortable unless you are wearing a label.

Once they have the label, they no longer need to listen to anything you have to say. They can simply agree or disagree with whatever the label is supposed to represent.

We'll do our best.

Ok - this is a Liberal/Progressive site - more or less.

The choice of liberal comes mostly from watching today's conservatives in action. At the same time, we disagree with some cherished positions that are supposed to be liberal or progressive. We could have called ourselves Libertarian, but too many libertarians run on the premise: "I'm OK, Jack and screw you".

None of this has any direct connection with the goals of the website, but it's going to be a little confusing if you start out assuming we are textbook progressives. You might feel as though you ran into a speedbump when we advocate something that is supposed to be a conservative position.

We aren't automatically for or against taxes; but the current system of taxes and expenditures is an incoherrent mess. Even useful expenditures, like the funding of basic scientific research, get caught up in a bureaucratic system. You can't take an intelligent position because we have no consensus on what is right and what is fair.

We are against Ayatollahs of any kind. If you just accepted Krishna as your personal savior, we are happy for you. If you want to make Krishna Consciousness the law of the land, that might be a problem. We promise to do our best to ignore you.

If you disagree with our choice of labels, you are welcome to pick any label that pleases you. Just remember that all of the really choice insults have already been submittted.
