Let's look at your real problems. They usually fall into one or more of the following categories:
1. You lost your job.
2. That means that there is a larger chance that you will lose your house. You aren't eligible for any of the "hopey changey" programs because you don't have a job and your credit has probably been trashed.
Hope for Homeowners was at best wishful thinking on the part of the Administration and the Congress. One version of the program went nine months and finally modified one single loan.
The more recent versions of this con game are extracting the last available money from the pockets of people who are definitely going to lose their homes.
Many of them are desperately trying to get a modification. If they do get any kind of modification, it's almost guaranteed to be a very bad deal.
But when they finally figure it out and walk away, their new modified mortgage is government guaranteed. The rest of us get to pay the bill.
3. Your pension plan has probably already been stolen; and now there is a serious plan to go after your social-security.
The trial balloons are hovering over the beltway. There are people waiting to see if they can get away with it right now. If they hear too much yelling and screaming, they may have to start another "education" program to convince you that social-security is really an Al Queda plot.

So what's the solution? It's called free-enterprise.
A few people are going to react instantly and assume that "free-enterprise" or "capitalism" stands for everything that is evil in the world.
You might say the same thing about double-entry bookkeeping. Almost every predatory corporation on the planet uses double entry bookkeeping to count the loot.
Even if you are a dedicated liberal or a wanna-be socialist, you have to admit that it has worked pretty well for the people who robbed you blind.
It's just a thought - but maybe you can use free enterprise to put a buck in your own pocket - and at the same time, take one or more bucks out of the pockets of the the thieves.
And by the way, they only call it "class warfare" when we fight back.
